January and February are great months to visit Kenya as the hot, dry weather at this Cheetah time of year is generally considered to be very pleasant. It's also when Kenya's birdlife flocks to the Rift Valley lakes in great numbers. The rainy season runs from the end of March to the end of May (and to a lesser extent from October to December). The month of May is usually called the 'green' month. This month is still a bit wet, but very pleasant. During the wet months things are much quieter - places tend to have rooms available and prices drop. The rains generally don't affect travellers' ability to get around.
The most fabulous time to see the great migration is usually between June and August when the wildebeest congregate and prepare to cross the famous Mara River. These months are extremely popular so make sure you book well in advance if you want to be sure to have a room in the hotel of your choice.
Weather
With pleasant overall conditions all year round, Kenya's southern highlands and coastal elephant pepper camp lowlands see little variation in conditions; each has a wet season between March and May and a second one in November and December. Temperatures are consistent throughout the year and cool for an equatorial region, ranging from high 20°Cs to low 30°Cs (80°Fs to low 90°Fs) on the coast, dropping slightly inland and then raising again closer to Lake Victoria. If you want to spend a holiday at Mombassa; The wettest months are April, May and June with May being the very rainiest. The rainy seasons do mean frequent rain, but not exactly monsoons. There may be rain most days, but more in short outbursts during afternoons. Before and after, the sun shines again. The second, less wet rainy seasons is from October to November.
